Biomass

Biomass energy is anything that is alive or was alive a short time ago. Trees, crops, garbage, and animal waste are all examples of biomass energy.

Biomass energy is created from the energy from the sun. You can make more biomass energy by simply planting a plant. In places without trees, people burn waste like cows and pigs for food and electricity.

We get energy from biomass when we eat anything made from plants so we eat biomass. When we eat biomass we use the energy to move and grow. When we burn biomass we use the energy to make heat.

Biomass energy can also be made into methane - a natural gas. For example, people in China put waste into a tank with no air and let it rot - this makes methane. Farmers also use the gas methane to make light and to power there machines. The waste left over is used for fertilizer to make crops.

Everyday our earth is becoming more polluted. Biomass energy is a way to stop the pollution. When you turn waste into something we can use, that stops pollution.

Our responsibility is to do things that helps keep the healthy such as recycling. Paper and plastic are items that we can recycle.

We should recycle to help the environment. Doing this protects the planet for future generations.

Biomass is an excellent invention since it produces clean energy to help extend the life of our planet.
